Wedding Band with a difference

January 19, 2010

I made a wedding band for a customer and handed it over to her yesterday. She had an engagement ring that was made by another NZ jeweller and she wanted some ideas for a band that would compliment it. Her engagement ring was a 9ct white gold 7-stone channel set ring. We discussed a few ideas together and came up with the idea of doing a double wedding band that would sit either side of her engagement ring making a whole new ring. She loved it.

This is what I made for her…

You can see from the picture how the two 9ct white gold bands are connected by plates that are hidden beneath the finger when the rings are worn together. The engagement ring can be removed and worn separately too if desired.

The rings when worn as one look like this…

I really enjoyed making this ring. It’s a great example of what can be done with a little imagination and a desire to be different.

I always encourage people to be creative and original when we’re discussing wedding rings or engagement rings. It means so much more to have put something of yourself into such a special piece of jewellery than to simply choose something generic off a shelf. It’ll be with you for a lifetime after all…
